This entry is still in progress . . . Four benches at Woman's Club one longer one in old council chambers Marilynn Frey according to Sylvia Horan's book the bences were donated by the Fourth Street Methodist Church (of Washington DC?) with the provision that the Club is their custodian but they cannot sell them. In President's Report of 1897, Mr. M. D. Peck states that settees purchased from the 12th Street Church replaced the rough benches of the Tabernacle.DA.00D1.23 Dimensions of longer bench in old council room 96" (8 ft) long, 32" high, seat depth 14 3/4" at either end is an arm rest that is hinged to the back which presumably will lie flat after repair; this was to allow benches to lie flat in storage; also at either end are four "chair legs. The bench in the old council chambers now fully restored Kathy Lehman had heard that the bench in the council chambers back folded down to facilitate stacking. Marilynn said this one is from the camp meeting. Georgette Cole will take pictures. A fundraiser is planned for June to raise money to refurbish the benches. |
